Toms Flag Wallet

My stash of TOMS flags has grown again and I decided to do another flag upcycle! This time I'm turning the flag into a wallet. I originally saw the idea on pinterest, but there were no tutorials to go with it, so I decided to make one myself!

Supplies:
- TOMS Flag
- scissors
- straight pins
- sewing machine

Start off by cutting off the extra material just past the wording. Make sure to cut off the back before cutting the sides.

Flip the front over and fold over the top until the tan meets the blue.

On the blue area beneath TOMS, pin the section of extra material that doesn't have the drawstring. Then sew the edges and one line down the middle, this is where cards will be kept. Set the main part of the wallet aside.

Cut out a small rectangle, no larger than 2 inches in length and an inch and a half in width.

Fold the edge up twice, then sew it down.

Cut out a rectangle around the words on the back part of the flag.
Fold the raw edge over, fold the edges in and sew.

Sew the small rectangle onto the front of the wallet, just past the M in TOMS.

Turn the wallet inside out so the pocket for cards is up against TOMS. Pin the edges together and make sure to pin the One for One rectangle so the long end is up against TOMS as well. Then sew and turn right side out.

Enjoy your wallet :)

Patterned Pocket DIY

While helping a friend shop for Halloween costume material, I spotted this chevron out of the corner of my eye. I couldn't resist passing it up, especially with how hard it is to find good chevron and striped material. I ended up buying 2 1/2 yards and I made a dress to wear for the rest of Autumn :)

I had a couple scraps left over and decided to put them to good use by updating old t-shirts!

Supplies
- t-shirt
- scrap of material (at least 4 in. by 3 in.)
- straight pins
- scissors
- sewing machine

Print off the pocket pattern from here and cut it out. Then trace the pattern onto the material and cut it out.

From the top line measure down 3/4 in. and draw a line. Fold over the top edge until that line and pin in place.

Sew the top fold down 5/8 in. in and then at 1/2 in. in.

Measure 1/4 in. in from either side then pin into place.

Measure 1/2 in. in from the bottom two edges. Pin the right edge up and then the left, making sure the point stays centered at the bottom.

Carefully pin the pocket to the shirt and try it on to make sure the position is correct.

Using a zipper foot, sew the pocket down as close to the edge as possible.

Its a quick and easy way to update a solid colored t-shirt. Mix and match the pattern of the pocket to give each one a unique look!

Upcycled Leggings

Lately I've given up using normal hair ties, they always seem to snap at the most inconvenient times and the elastic gets so stretched out that you can use them any more. The "ouchless" and "tangle-free" hair ties look like tights that have been stretched so the edges curl but with a price tag. While cleaning out my closet I found a pair of footless tights and thought of the "ouchless" hair ties. Pull those old tights out of your closet and get ready to upcycle!

Supplies
- old leggings or tights
- scissors
- chalk

Cut off the hem, or the toe if you're using tights, so you have a raw edge.

From the raw edge make a mark at every inch in chalk.

Cut along each of the marks.

2.

From here you can go two ways.
  1. Leave the band in a loop and stretch it out so the edges curl.
  2. Cut the loop and then stretch it out, then tie the ends together.

I made a total of 44 hair ties with a pair of small leggings!

Measure from the top of the tights to the end of the center seam and mark with chalk.

Cut along the line.

Stretch the raw edge so it curls. You may want to sew another layer of material under the front if it stretches too thin when you put it on.

Rock your upcycled bandeau under some cute summer shirts!

DIY Zipper Heart

Lately I've been seeing a bunch of bracelets and key chains that are made out of zippers and I think it's really really cool. My favorite is when they have the metal zipper. The other day I destroyed a pair of old jeans for part of a quilt. I saw the zipper and thought that would make a perfect key chain!

Supplies
- zipper
- needle
- thread

Make sure your zipper is roughly three inches long. I tucked the ends of mine under so they wouldn't get in the way.

Cut both of the edges of the zipper in half. This will help with the heart shape.

Unzip the zipper and pull the two outer corners down and together.

Thread the needle and tack the two corners together. Don't worry about keeping it neat, the zipper pull will cover all of the sewing.

After tacking the corners together, sew them to bottom of the zipper.

Sew around the inside edge of the heart to keep it from fraying.

Attach it to a chain or just leave it as is :)
