DIY Zipper Heart

Lately I've been seeing a bunch of bracelets and key chains that are made out of zippers and I think it's really really cool. My favorite is when they have the metal zipper. The other day I destroyed a pair of old jeans for part of a quilt. I saw the zipper and thought that would make a perfect key chain!

Supplies
- zipper
- needle
- thread

Make sure your zipper is roughly three inches long. I tucked the ends of mine under so they wouldn't get in the way.

Cut both of the edges of the zipper in half. This will help with the heart shape.

Unzip the zipper and pull the two outer corners down and together.

Thread the needle and tack the two corners together. Don't worry about keeping it neat, the zipper pull will cover all of the sewing.

After tacking the corners together, sew them to bottom of the zipper.

Sew around the inside edge of the heart to keep it from fraying.

Attach it to a chain or just leave it as is :)

T-shirt Swim Cover-up

Gigantic t-shirts are all to common at our house, so I'm constantly trying to think of new ways to turn them into something fashionable. With warm weather almost upon us, what better to make than a simplistic, but unique beach cover-up!

Supplies
- XXL mens tshirt
- scissors
- ruler
- tank top
- pencil
- thread
- needle

Lay your t-shirt out on a flat surface and smooth the wrinkles out.

Cut off the ribbing around the neckline, making it deeper if you want. Then flip the t-shirt over.

Measure two inches from the neckline, from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. Cut along this line. Make sure you only cut through the back of the t-shirt while doing this.

Lay the tank top on top of the t-shirt and trace the arm holes. Cut along this line, but only cut the front of the t-shirt.

It will end up looking somewhat like an apron once you've cut the front.

Find the center of the back of the shirt. Then measure an inch and a half either side of the center. Cut from these outer marks to the bottom of the arm holes, like so.

Line up the center of the back with the tag of the t-shirt. Fold over the back about an inch, then sew the edge down and scrunch together.

Enjoy the lovely summer weather!

Cut-Out Back Tshirt

Over the last year or so I've accumulated a bunch of t-shirts that have one thing in common, there is nothing on the back. All of the writing is on the front of the shirt.

This is the inspiration for the shirt. I had it pinned to my DIY pinterest board, but there was no tutorial to go along with it.

Supplies
- t-shirt
- scissors
- pencil
- ruler
- eraser

Lay your t-shirt out on a flat surface that you can write on. Don't do this on carpeting.

Fold the t-shirt in half and make a mark where you want the bottom and the point of the heart to be.

Using these two points roughly draw the outline of a heart on the back of your shirt.

Make a mark a half of an inch from either point. Then connect these marks with a straight line. This line will mark where you will start/stop cutting.

Using a ruler mark diagonal lines inside the two halves of the heart, spacing them roughly an inch apart from each other.

Cut along each of the lines on both halves of the heart, then pull so the edges curl in.

You can use the cut-out back technique to make too tight t-shirts looser. Use either vertical or horizontal  cuts to make the shirt looser.

Enjoy your chic new t-shirt! :)
