TOMS Pencil Case

Hello everyone! As I get ready for the second half of my school year, I have found myself in need of a pencil case. Not to mention a ton of TOMS flags from Christmas. Combine the two together and you get a stylish, unique pencil case:)

Supplies
- TOMS flag
- zipper
- scissors
- seam ripper (optional)
- ruler
- pencil
- upholstery needle and pliers
- sewing machine

To make the pencil case you will only want to use one side of the TOMS flag. Take either scissors or a seam ripper and undo the stitching or just cut it off. Pull out the draw-string as well.

Cut the material around the grommets, leaving them attached to the blue and white side of the flag.

Using the ruler, draw a straight line next to the T and the S in TOMS on the wrong side of the material  From this line, measure out one inch.

Pin the zipper to the top and bottom of the flag, the two longer edges, Make sure that it will go past the ends of the marks you just made. Pin it from the top so you wont have to go back over with a top-stitch afterwords. Then sew both sides.

Turn the tube inside out and pin the sides together so the zipper is touching the side that has TOMS on it. Sew on the inch mark that you made in step three, making sure to back stitch over the zipper so it stays in place.

Cut to the right of the grommet and then zig-zag stitch or serge the edge so it doesn't fray like crazy.

Using an upholstery needle, thread the draw-string through the zipper pull. Use the pliers to get a better grip.

I wanted to use the entire draw-string, so I ended up tying it in a decorative knot.Click here for a tutorial on to tie the knot. You can always leave it as is, knot the ends, and cut off the excess.

Cover the knot in glue, or the ends if you just tied it, to keep it from unraveling and let it dry.

It's ready to go!
